Five UK dog rescue centres where you could find your next pet

by Bronwyn Hall

If you’re looking for a dog, look no further. We have five rescue centres, all based in the UK, where you can save a dog from life in a shelter.

They say: ‘Would you like to adopt a dog, adopt a cat or any other type of pet? If so, you’ve come to the right place. We’ve got so many rescue animals waiting for a new family. Could you rehome a rescue animal to give them a second chance?’

With centres up and down the UK – including Northampton, Coventry, Buckingham, Luton, Swindon and loads more – it’s not hard to find a rescue dog looking for a home near you. Log on to their website to find your nearest one:

2. Blue Cross UK

They say: ‘We find homes for unwanted cats, dogs, small pets and horses across the UK and our tailor-made service means we help each pet find the right person for them.’

From Birmingham to Surrey to Usk, they have rehoming centres all over. Log on to to see all of the animals that they have available.

3. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home

They say: ‘Rehoming a dog can be a hugely rewarding experience, and the start of a lifelong bond. It’s a big responsibility which requires a good deal of commitment, so please take time to understand our rehoming policy before making a decision.’

You can e-mail Battersea at [email protected] if you think that a rescue dog is right for you. You can also log on to to read more about rehoming a dog and to see the dogs available.

4. Wood Green, The Animals Charity

They say: ‘From humble beginnings in 1924 Wood Green, The Animals Charity has grown to become one of the leading animal welfare organisations in the UK.’

The charity have restricted public viewing of the dogs in the care to those who are actively looking to rehome. You can see some of the dogs looking for new homes on their website To enquire about any of the dogs, please contact a member of the dog rehoming team on 0844 248 8181.

5. Dogs Trust

They say: ‘Our mission is to bring about the day when all dogs can enjoy a happy life, free from the threat of unnecessary destruction.’

From those who coined the phrases ‘We never put a healthy dog down’ and ‘A dog is for life…’ They have rehoming centres from Manchester to Essex and almost everywhere in between! Visit their website to see some of the dogs looking for a home
