Labradoodles 101

by Alessia

Only around since the late 1980’s Labradoodles have quickly become one of the most popular dog breeds around. Famous owners of these adorable pooches include Jennifer Aniston, Tiger Woods, and Vice President Biden. Labradoodles were created in Australia by a vet who was allergic to dogs (that must have been one passionate vet!). He combined the intelligent Labrador Retriever with the low – non shedding Poodle to create the Labradoodle, a basically hypoallergenic, non shedding dog. There are a few different types of Labradoodles since they are a mix between two breeds, and this does slightly affect the degree to which they are hypoallergenic. The three types of coats on a Labradoodle are hair,

and wool, which is the curliest and most allergy friendly.

Like Labradors, Labradoodles are prone to hip dysplasia and potential eye issues, so it is important to get them checked out regularly for such problems. They are intelligent dogs that are energetic and easy to train, as well as social and very docile when need be. They are easy to groom and make excellent family pets.

I’m a little obsessed with this breed right now, so check out this post on why Labradoodles would be a good addition to your family.
